The retroactive scout

As a kid, I never joined the scouts. Not sure why. Both of my parents were. My friends and most of my family was, but not me. As an adult, I looked back and wondered why? And what was I missing? Could I have made it?

Thus began my search for adult scouting information and I found...nothing. I could be a Leader, if I found a troop that needed me and I got on with, had the time, etc. I didn't. Not really. So I decided I didn't need official ties. I could do the trainings myself, maybe make them more appropriate for an adult learner, and retroactively 'award' myself with virtual badges.  Which is what this blog is going to be. My log of learnings and awards. It's not official. I'm still not a member of a scouting organization, and I'm going to pull from a few different sources, but I'm going to try and see what I can do. What can I learn and what things do I need to change to make it more appropriate for an adult juggling both full-and part-time-jobs and family?

First things first, a list of skills I want to work on. I have this adorable 1963 Senior Girl Scout Handbook that I'm going to start with. I want to try items from the US Girl Scouts and US Scouting America, the UK Girl Guides, and the UK Scouts

To start with, the 1963 Senior Girl Scouts badges fall under the following categories divided into projects under each category:
  • Arts
  • Community Action
  • Homemaker
  • International Friendship
  • Mariner
  • Mounted
  • Trailblazer
  • Wing
I'm going to start with this book and see what I can do without too many changes. Some items I won't be able to do because of modern safety regulations and costs, but we'll try our hardest! I'll mark through the one's I complete as we go.
